Biffa complaints process

If you are unhappy with Biffa’s service, they provide a way of raising an “expression of dissatisfaction” relating to their services. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Contact Biffa's customer service team

The first step in raising a complaint with Biffa is contacting their customer service team. Refer to the section above for different ways of contacting Biffa.

Whichever method you use, include your account number, company address and a contact number to avoid delays.

Step 2: Internal escalation

If your complaint is not resolved straight away, Biffa states they will follow an internal escalation process and provide regular updates.

It is worth noting that Biffa is not a regulated company, meaning all complaint decisions are made internally with no independent adjudicator.

Step 3: Escalate to the ESA

If your complaint remains unresolved, you can contact the Environmental Services Association (ESA), the trade body for the UK waste management industry, at esauk.org or info@esauk.org.

The ESA cannot formally adjudicate complaints but can apply pressure on members where standards fall short.

Biffa commercial waste collection types

Below, we take a closer look at the types of waste collection services Biffa offers, from general waste to hazardous materials, and how they cater to different business needs.

General Waste Bin

General waste

Biffa’s general waste collection handles non-recyclable waste like food-soiled packaging, plastic wrappers, and contaminated paper, ensuring compliant disposal at licensed facilities.

Recycling Bin

Dry mixed recycling

Biffa provides commercial dry mixed recycling (DMR) collections allowing businesses to easily dispose of recyclable materials like paper, cardboard, plastics, and aluminium cans all in one bin.

Cardboard Recycling Bin

Paper and cardboard

Biffa provides dedicated collections for commercial cardboard recycling. The collected cardboard and paper are sorted, cleaned, and recycled into new products such as packaging and paper goods.

Biffa’s commercial glass recycling service collects and processes items such as bottles and containers, reintroducing them into production to support a circular economy.

Food Waste Bin

Pros

  • Reliable collections: Many business customers highlight consistent and timely waste collection as a key strength, particularly for larger contracts.
  • Range of services: Customers appreciate having access to a wide variety of waste streams under one provider, reducing the need to manage multiple suppliers.
  • Driver and depot staff: Positive reviews frequently mention individual drivers and local depot teams rather than the business as a whole.

Cons

  • Customer service response times: Delays in resolving complaints and slow responses from the customer service team are among the most frequently raised concerns.
  • Billing and invoicing: A recurring theme in negative reviews is unexpected charges and errors in business waste collection costs.
