Commercial waste collection providers in Wandsworth

The London Borough of Wandsworth is home to over 19,000 businesses, boasting a high density of companies in the warehouse and retail sectors.

Regrettably, these businesses can’t use the council’s free household waste collection service and must instead depend on commercial waste collection providers.

In this guide, we will summarise the top commercial waste firms trusted for regular trade waste collections in Wandsworth.

Commercial waste collection with Wandsworth Borough Council

Wandsworth Council is responsible for collecting domestic waste in the borough but only reluctantly offers business waste collections.

The Wandsworth Council Website says:

“We have a duty to collect commercial waste if requested and must charge for this service. Our charges apply to both waste and recycling collections and can be significantly higher than those of privately operating licenced waste carriers operating locally.

We strongly advise that you get quotes from privately operating licenced waste carriers to check which can offer you the best service at an acceptable price.”

As of March 2024, the council provides a weekly collection service for a single 240-litre bin at an annual cost of £1,609.50. This rate is more than double the average commercial waste collection cost found using our business waste comparison service.

To discourage businesses further, the council only accepts new applications by writing to:

Battersea Power Station Waste

The four chimneys of Battersea Power Station stand as some of London’s most iconic landmarks. Originally, the building served as a coal-fired power station, constructed in the 1930s to meet the increasing electricity demands of a growing London.

Decommissioned in the 1980s, the power station was awarded Grade II listed status in recognition of its special architectural and historical significance.

Battersea Power Station is now at the heart of one of London’s largest redevelopment projects, transforming the site into a vibrant community comprising homes, shops, restaurants, and offices.

Such a significant development necessitates a comprehensive waste management strategy to address the construction waste generated.

As an example of environmentally responsible waste management practices, we would like to highlight the role of FCC Environment in disposing of the 120,000 cubic meters of soil waste evacuated from the development.

The firm facilitated the transportation of this soil to its Cricklewood rail facility in the borough of Camden. There, it was loaded onto freight trains, a method that considerably reduces reliance on London’s congested roads and the carbon emissions from diesel HGVs.

Ultimately, the soil was transported by rail for reuse in the restoration of a quarry in Calvert, Buckinghamshire, thereby circumventing landfill usage.
